John O'Groats

John O'Groats has wonderful panoramic views across the stormy waters of the Pentland Firth to Orkney. The community takes its name from the Dutchman, Jan de Groot, who was the original Ferryman. He is famous for having an eight-sided house, whose design was reminiscent of King Arthur and his Round Table.

John O’Groats is often the start or end point of charity events whose fundraisers make their way on foot, bike, car or other transport the 874 miles all the way to or from Lands End.
