Glen Coe

With towering mountains sweeping down on both sides, Glen Coe is at once spectacularly beautiful and yet strangely forbidding – a legacy perhaps on the infamous massacre that took place here on a snow-driven February night in 1692.

Forty of the MacDonald clan were massacred in cold blood by the Campbellsfor not forswearing the Jacobite cause. If you listen very carefully they say you can still hear their cries!

Today visitors are drawn to Glen Coe for its dramatic landscapes, wealth of wildlife and varied geology. Glen Coe is also the cradle of Scottish mountaineering and the area provides some of the finest climbing and walking country in Scotland.
