The majestic Cuillin Hills dominate the scenery of central Skye. The more rounded Red Cuillins contrast with the jagged peaks of the Black Cuillins to the west.
Strangely The Cuillins, the
greatest concentration of tall peaks in Britain, are referred to as hills
rather than mountains. Although most peaks are just over 3,000 feet tall it is
the way that they surge dramatically from sea level that makes them so
impressive.
These Mountains are of gabbro and granite which makes them particularly
challenging to the many climbers who travel to Skye each year.
