Loch Lomond is the largest stretch of inland water in Britain- 22 miles long by up to 5 miles wide at its widest point. The loch straddles the Highland fault, which separates the Highlands from the Lowlands. You will see the marked contrast as we drive between the gentle countryside of the southern half of the loch with the more mountainous scenery of the northern extremities.

By the way, the famous song "The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond", which is known the world over is said to have been composed by a follower of Bonnie Prince Charlie (a Jacobite), on the eve of his execution in Carlisle Jail. The "low road" is the way in which his spirit will return home quicker than his friend’s "high road".
